NCRunners.com XC Coaches Poll #5

With the Wendy's Invitational and the Tanglewood Invitational the last couple weekends, many of the states finest were able to race one another. Both meets saw teams running with incomplete top 7's, but I'd say coaches noticed.

The next 3 weeks are an excited time with conferences, regionals, and state meets. The first state meets are actually in 2 weeks at the Wake Med Soccer Complex. The NCISAA 1A, 2A, & 3A teams will finish up their seasons and crown the state champs.

Note on upcoming polls:
*The next poll will be next week, after the conference meets have been run. So votes will be due next Monday night. Also the Independent school classifications will be broken up for the first time.
*Then a special "State Meet Prediction" poll will be conducted the following week. Coaches will be asked to predict the top 16 in each classification that they feel comfortable voting for.

Thank goodness Leesville Road boys got some votes. Now we will not have to read "Guywhorunsalot" complain about his team not getting any respect. : )

Not sure they are a top 10 team, YET, but they are moving in the right direction.

    W. Carteret girls are better than 10th! They can put 6 girls under 22 min., w/ only about 60 - 80 sec. split. I don't know what the girls teams above them have, but they'll have to be strong to beat WC. WC boys may belong in the top 10, too. When conf. results start coming in, it will be interesting to compare all the teams, as we hope all teams are running at full strength at this point in the season.

are you kidding me? Central Davidson guys are very good this year. Every one of their top 5 run mid to low 18:00

They are definitely top 10 material

You have got to get your coaches to vote and if you are a coach, then you need to vote. Remember that the coaches pole is made by coaches who send in votes and teams are ranked in the order of votes received by the coaches.

I realize that this is based off of coaches poles, but what is the deal? At the Wendy's Invitational, Chapel Hill ran slower than Northwest Guilford who is ranked two spots behind them. And Green Hope has by far been the most dominant team in the state all season. Broughton's times are nowhere close. The top four should read: Green Hope, Broughton, Northwest Guilford, Chapel Hill.

I guess we will find out on Saturday. 4A Mideast Regional is going to be a fun one. Green Hope, Broughton, and Chapel Hill be all be going head to head for bragging rights. The exciting battle will be for the 4th slot to States. Enloe, Sanderson, Athens, Cary and Leesville, fighting it out for a trip to Tanglewood a week later. Doesn't get much better than that.

[/quote] Those times can be misleading - Spreitzer's 16:07 came at the Wolfpack Invite in early September, and he hasn't run since. Broughton and Green Hope each ran at Maymont - Broughton was 3rd and Green Hope was 11th - not a dominant performance at all. Right now Broughton is the stronger team. As for Chapel Hill / NW Guilford - I'm not sure what you mean by "ran slower". If you compare their times head-to-head from Wendy's (dicey at best, since they ran in different races), Chapel Hill wins 27-28. But why speculate? Chapel Hill and NW Gulford have competed in the same races twice this season: Wolfpack Invite: Chapel Hill (3rd), NW Guilford (5th) Greensboro Invite: Chapel Hill (1st), NW Guilford (2nd) Based on these results, it certainly looks like the coaches have it correct.

Bragging rights are fine and all, but no one remembers who wins the regions.

Bigtrip, I think you meant to be ironic. You said " no one remembers who wins the regions" and also "Last year Green Hope won their region". Obviously someone remembered. It took me a minute to catch on to your joke. Based on the new poll the 4A Girls Mideast Region has 5 of the top 10 (4A) teams at State. East Chapel Hill, Green Hope, Chapel Hill, Broughton and Cary. One of those fine teams is just not going to make it. Saturday should be a fun day of racing at SAS Soccer Park.

Some of the top individuals in the State as well, both male and female.

Bigtrip, even though chapel hill and Northwest guilford werent in the same race at wendys, they both did run the same course on the same day and yes chapel hill would have beaten NW guilford by a point if the race was just between the two of them, but if the times from the championship race and invitational race are combined, then Northwest would have beaten Chapel hill by over 30 points ( without their # 3 runner) so states should be interesting.
